WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have recalled forward Andrew Orpik from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced on Saturday.

Orpik, 24, has posted 19 points (6+13) in 46 games with the Nailers, and he is coming off of a two-goal effort last night against the Reading Royals.

Orpik spent most of last season with the Las Vegas Wranglers (ECHL). The 6-3, 200-lb. blueliner posted 22 points (10G, 12A) and 38 penalty minutes in 35 games, and led all Wranglers defensemen in goals scored. The native of East Amherst, New York, also earned his first action in the AHL last season with the San Antonio Rampage, where he posted five points (1G, 4A) in 22 contests.

Orpik, the younger brother of Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik, completed his four-year collegiate career with Boston College (HE) in 2009, a season in which he lead all Eagles defensemen in scoring. He finished his tenure with 47 points (18G, 29A) and 145 penalty minutes in 155 games, and was a member of the Eagles' 2008 National Championship Team.

Orpik was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the seventh round (227th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as a free agent on August 10, 2010.
