TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After sending a season-high 54 shots on net last night in a 6-1 runaway win, tonight the Cyclones will look to close out their season series against the Florida Everblades with a similar effort. Last night was the first time in the seven season meetings that the home team has earned a victory. Overall in 2010-11, the Cyclones lead the Everblades 4-3 and have outshot them 279-172.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: Twister Bank Night - The first 2,000 kids ages 2-12 will receive a Twister Bank courtesy of U.S. Bank. $1 Donatos Pizza Slices.
SCOUTING THE EVERBLADES: With its loss last night, Florida slips three points back of first-place Greenville in the South Division standings and have gone 4-5-0-1 in their last ten games. Despite sporting the ECHL's most powerful offense (with 180 goals scored this year), the Everblades have been outscored 24-21 by Cincinnati. While they've had tremendous success in weekday games, going 12-7-0, they have struggled picking up points during weekend play. In 2010-11, they are just 16-16-3 on Friday-Sunday games. Although he was held off the scoresheet last night, Francis Lemieux continues to lead the ECHL with 66 points (27 goals, 39 assists) in 52 games. His goal totals also pace the league while his assist numbers are the second-most in the ECHL.
The New Guys: The Cyclones have added a pair of new faces this week. Forwards Paul McIlveen and Casey Pierro-Zabotel were both acquired in two separate trades. McIlveen, a fourth-year pro, had registered 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists) in 37 games with Greenville and earned his first goal as a Cyclone last night. Pierro-Zabotel, a 2007 Pittsburgh Penguins draft choice, instantly upgrades the Cyclones offensive arsenal. He had 34 points in 42 games with the Wheeling Nailers and a +17 plus/minus rating. He, too, had a goal last night in his Cyclones debut and is fourth in the ECHL with a +19 plus/minus rating.
And That's Not All....: On Friday, the Cyclones brought in another new pair of forwards when they acquired Dan Eves and Samson Mahbod from the South Carolina Stingrays in exchange for Ryan Del Monte. Eves finished fourth on the Trenton Devils in scoring last year, collecting 45 points (23 goals, 22 assists) in 59 games to go along with a team second-most 102 PIM. Mahbod, a rookie, has earned 16 points combined with Elmira and South Carolina. He led Prince Edward Island (QMJHL) last season with 64 points in 52 games.
Southern Comfort: The Cyclones will look to improve upon some terrific numbers against the South Division this year. Coming into tonight, the 'Clones have earned a 7-3-1 record against the "South" including a three-game sweep of the Everblades in early January. In fact, there are only three other teams in the ECHL that have posted a winning mark against the South Division (Reading, Greenville, South Carolina). Cincinnati has outscored their opponents in those games 39-29 and have outshot them by a total of 396-271.
