Las Vegas Wranglers News Release


Vegas, Nev- The Las Vegas Wranglers were defeated by the Victoria Salmon Kings Friday night in front of 5,656 at the Orleans Arena. Las Vegas was unable to tally in the match as they now find themselves on a two-game losing streak. Rick Cleaver and Ryan Dingle scored the two goals for Victoria in the shutout. Goaltender David Shantz turned away all 28 shots he faced in the win as he improved his record to17-17-3. Michael Ouzas took the loss in the effort turning away 25 of 26 as his record slides to 12-8-1. Neither team tallied on the power play while Victoria had two opportunities and Las Vegas had seven. With the win Victoria improves to 21-25-3 on the season as they hold the fourth spot in the Mountain division with 45 total points. The loss sends the Wranglers on a two-game skid as they slide to 30-16-3 overall and still hold the number one spot in the Pacific division and Mountain conference with 63 total points.

Neither team tallied in the first two periods of their eleventh meeting of the season. Las Vegas led in the shots category going into the third period 22-17.

After a disallowed Wranglers' goal in the third period the Salmon Kings were able to take the momentum and run. At 5:06 of the third period Rick Cleaver tallied his eighteenth goal of the season assisted by Ryan Turek which ended up being the game-winner. Victoria added an empty-net goal at 19:23 with Ryan Dingle's fourth goal of the unassisted as the Salmon Kings improved to 3-8 against Las Vegas with the 2-0 win.

The same two teams battle again on Sunday afternoon for their final regular season meeting. After Sunday's game the Wranglers do not host another game until Alaska comes to town March 15th.
