Gladiators Smoke Inferno, 6-0, Push winning streak to 9 games

Sean Fields made 22 saves to record his third shutout of the season helping the Gladiators past the Columbia Inferno 6-0 on Friday night from Columbia. With the win, the Gladiators extend their franchise best winning steak to nine games. Matt York had a hat trick in the win for Gwinnett. Playing without two of their top two scorers because of call-ups to the AHL Gwinnett came out and buckled down defensively in the first period as the teams skated to a scoreless tie through the opening stanza. Sean Fields made 9 saves in the period that saw both teams unable to score on one power play chance. Matt York broke a scoreless tie with his second goal of the season picking up a loose puck in the slot and ripping a snapshot through the legs of Columbia netminder Jani Hurme for the tally. Cam Brown and Josh Bennett posted the assists on the goal at 11:44 of the second period to give Gwinnett the early one goal lead. Gwinnett took a 2-0 lead on York's second tally of the night. Picking up a loose puck in the left wing faceoff circle, York fired the puck to the far post to beat Hurme for the goal. The marker came unassisted at the 14:33 mark of the second period. Milan Gajic pushed the Gladiators lead to 3-0 with his 17th goal of the season as he picked up a rebound in the slot to the far side and ripped the puck into an empty net as Hurme was still down making the original save. Jeff Campbell and Lane Manson hooked up to pick up the assists on the goal at 2:42 of the third period. Jeff Dwyer gave the Gladiators a 4-0 lead with his 3rd goal of the season beating Hurme from the left wing point with a slap shot. The goal came at the 4:02 mark of the third period with assists to York and Cam Brown. Derek Nesbitt kept is point scoring streak alive and pushed it to nine games with a goal on the power play at 11:11 of the third period. Brad Schell and Brown collected the assists on the man advantage goal setting up Nesbitt in the high slot for the goal. York recorded his first professional hat trick with the Gladiators 6th goal of the night at 11:46 of the third period on the power play. A loose puck along the goal line that York was able to backhand over Hurme for the tally that had Dwyer and Gajic picking up assists. Gwinnett went 2 for 6 on the power play in the win as the Gladiators improved to 32-9-5 on the year.
