Gladiators Slice Stingrays, 7-3

Brad Schell and Derek Nesbitt each posted two goals while Adam Berkhoel made 28 saves to lead the Gladiators past the South Carolina Stingrays 7-3 on Tuesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

South Carolina jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Craig Olynick 7:05 into the first period. Dominic Soucy and Ty Morris picked up the assists on the tally.

Derek Nesbitt tied the game at one with his 8th goal of the season on the power play. Milan Gajic found Nesbitt at the far point to set up the goal. Jeff Dwyer also had an assist on the goal 9:16 into the first period.

Scott Gomez regained the one goal advantage for the Stingrays beating Gladiators goaltender Adam Berkhoel from the slot with a point blank snapshot. Cail MacLean fed a waiting Gomez in the slot to set up the marker. Ryan Finnerty also had an assist on the goal 13:26 into the first period.

Gwinnett tied the contest at two just 3:07 into the second period. Steve Slaton ripped a slapshot from the left wing circle past Stingrays goaltender Maxime Daigneault for the goal. Cam Brown and Jimmy Sharrow picked up the assists on the tally.

South Carolina again regained the lead, this time at 3-2, with a shorthanded tally 9:57 into the second period. Brad Parsons finished a 2-on-1 break with Matt Reid for the marker.

Derek Nesbitt netted his second goal of the night to tie the game at three just 25 seconds after the Stingrays shorthanded tally. Nesbitt jammed the puck past Daigneault as it bounce off the back dasher right to the waiting forward. Jeff Dwyer and Scott Kelman picked up the assists on the goal scored 10:22 into the second period.

Gwinnett took its first lead of the game 53 seconds into the second period on Brad Schell's first tally of the game. Parked on the doorstep, Schell found a rebound and jammed it home for the go ahead power play goal. Jeff Campbell and Troy Milam picked up the assists on the tally.

Scott Mifsud extened the Gwinnett lead to 5-3 with his 7th goal of the season. Lane Manson picked the assist threading the puck through two Stingray defensemen to Mifsud who jammed the puck home. Mifsud's goal chased Daigneault out of the South carolina net in favor of Davis Parley.

Gwinnett's third period barrage continued as Brad Schell picked up his second goal of the night, shorthanded, at the 4:47 mark of the third period. Schell ripped a slap shot from the right wing circle past Parley for the tally. Jeff campbell picked up an assist shoveling the puck off the dasherboard to Schell to set up the marker.

Guillaume Desbiens rounded out the scoring with his 10th goal of the season to give the Gladiators a 7-3 lead at the 8:16 mark of the third period. Desbiens ripped a slapshot over the shoulder of Parley for the tally. Kelman fed Desbiens in the slot to add an assist on the tally. Scott Mifsud also had a helper on the goal.

Adam Berkhoel made 28 saves to record his first win with Gwinnett this season helping the Gladiators improve to 15-6-4 on the season and 32 points. Gwinnett finished with three power play goals while preventing the Stingrays from picking up a goal on the man adantage in the win.
