Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Falcons goaltender Brett Jaeger made 34 saves, including 19 in the third period while Fresno successfully protected a one-goal lead, to help the Falcons secure a 2-1 victory against the Stockton Thunder at Save Mart Center on Monday.
Fresno got on the board first after Matt Deschamps' lead pass sprung J.F. Plourde for a shorthanded goal 5:50 into the game. The Thunder tied the contest at 16:32 of the first period while skating on a five-on-three power play when Joel Irwin sent a one-timer home from the left circle.
Falcons captain Matt O'Dette put his club ahead to stay 4:59 into the second when his slapshot from the right point gave Fresno a 2-1 lead.
Jaeger's individual performance dominated the final frame as the Falcons were out-gunned 19-5. Stockton pulled their goaltender in favor of an extra attacker in the final 90 seconds but never found the equalizer.
The victory is Fresno's fourth straight and keeps the team unbeaten through its last seven games. The Falcons have suffered just one regulation loss over their past 15 games dating back to Nov. 12 and lead the Pacific Division with a record of 14-4-7 and 35 points.
Tonight's game bridged a pair of six-game road trips as Fresno will spend the next two weeks on the road taking them through the first week of 2006. The Falcons will visit Bakersfield on Friday before traveling to battle the Phoenix RoadRunners over the New Year's holiday on Saturday and Sunday.
Fresno's next home game is Jan. 10 when the Florida Everblades travel to Save Mart Center. Individual tickets for the 7 p.m. start are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets and Save Mart Center's box office. Prices range from $8 - $22.
