Gladiators Power Less against Lynx, 3-2

The Augusta Lynx used two shorthanded goal to get by the Gwinnett Gladiators 3-2 on Saturday night in front of 7,138 fans at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Treavor Peterson was able to capitalize on a turnover deep inside the Gladiators zone and bang home the game's first goal 2 minutes into the contest. Louis Goulet was able to feed Peterson in the high slot to pick up an assist on the tally. Peterson walked in on Gladiators netminder Simon Lajeunesse untouched to pick up to marker. Todd Bennett also picked up an assist on the goal.

Gwinnett tied the game up on Jim Jackson's 6th goal of the season on a delayed penalty call against the Lynx. The Defenseman, trailing the play, picked up a rebound along the goal line and flipped the puck past Augusta netminder Matus Kostur. Kris Goodjohn and Chris Durno moved the puck around deep inside the Augusta zone to pick up the assists on the goal 3:24 into the second period.

Connelly slipped in from his point position and ripped a centering pass behind Lajeunesse to give the Lynx a 2-1 lead. Jim Shepherd and Eric Johansson added the assists on the goal at 4:09 of the third period.

Augusta pushed its lead to 3-1 with a second shorthanded goal. Matt Dzieduszycki dug the puck out of the corner and fed a wide-open Jamie Johnson in the slot. Johnson banged home what proved to be the game winner at 7:41 of the third period. Lajeunensse left the game following he goal and did not return as Johnson's scoring move twisted the netminder awkwardly knocking him out of the game.

Dave McCulloch cut the Augusta lead to one with 24 seconds left in the third period on a slap shot from the right point that found its way through traffic and past Kostur. Mike Stathopoulos added an assist on the Gladiators goal but Gwinnett could get no closer.

Lajeuness picks up the loss making 18 saves before leaving in the third period as the Gladiators fall to 17-10-4 on the season.
