VICTORIA, BC – Mike Scott scored his first goal since December 17 to give the Alaska Aces a third period lead they would not relinquish in a gritty 2-1 triumph over the Victoria Salmon Kings Friday before 3,935 at Sullivan Arena.

The game offered a complete reversal from 48 hours earlier in Victoria, when the Salmon Kings were simply overmatched by the Aces, who rolled to a 10-3 victory. Scott Gomez, coming off a five-assist performance in Wednesday's rout, opened the scoring Friday with his fifth goal of the year, a shot that squeezed through the blocker of Victoria goaltender Jason Stone, who settled down and finished with 34 saves. That would be all the scoring for Alaska until Scott's game-winner, but in the meantime the Salmon Kings forged a 1-1 tie on Mike Barrie's power play goal with 2:30 left in the first period.

A scoreless middle frame followed, despite the fact that the Aces fired seven shots on a single power play, and Alaska headed into the second intermission deadlocked despite a 25-13 advantage in shots on goal. Scott scored for the first time in seven games by firing in a rebound of a Joe Talbot shot, but almost 16 minutes still were left in regulation. Victoria killed two Aces power plays, and then enjoyed two of its own in the game's last four minutes, but failed to beat Alaska starter Peter Aubry, who made nine of his 21 saves in the final period to earn the victory.

The Aces have won four in a row for the first time all season to move into sole possession of third place in the West Division at 17-12-2. The Salmon Kings have dropped six straight, nine of 10, and lost their captain, leading scorer and All-Star Game representative Brad Dexter to an injury early in the first period.

Alaska polishes off a stretch of four straight games against Victoria (7-19-3) tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the drop of the puck. The game will be broadcast live on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, where all home games also can be seen on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
