Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons brought more firepower than the San Diego Gulls could defend with Dan Tessier, Fresno's captain and a recently named starter in the ECHL All-Star Game, earning a hat trick by scoring a goal in each period as Fresno routed the Gulls, 9-5, at Save Mart Center on Friday.

Fresno's David Brisson began the goal-fest 3:33 into the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, San Diego tied it at one apiece on an Ian Forbes goal. By the end of the period, though, Tessier put Fresno up 2-1 with a blazing slapshot from the left circle, and Derek Krestanovich scored his twelfth goal of the season for a 3-1 Falcons lead going into the first intermission.

A short-handed goal by John Wroblewski, a power play goal from Jason Weaver, and an unassisted goal from Paul Falco gave the Falcons a 6-1 lead midway through the second period. The Gulls made it 6-2 after Nick Ganga's goal at 10:28 stopped a run of five straight Fresno tallies. But the Falcons did not stand pat as a power play goal by Jan Sochor at 11:35 and a short-handed goal by Tessier at 13:57 gave them their largest lead of the evening at 8-2. The Gulls' Mark Pederson then scored on a power play to take the game into the second intermission with an 8-3 score.

San Diego continued its comeback attempt into the third period with goals from Brian Gornick and Scott Borders to close the gap to 8-5 with nine minutes left in regulation. The Gulls couldn't pull any closer, however, and Tessier put the nail in the coffin by scoring a goal with 15 seconds left to give him the hat trick for the evening.

The victory in front of an announced crowd of 6,511 marks the Falcons' fourth in a row and brings their overall record to 16-13-3. The team begins a four-game road trip Saturday with stops in San Diego, Las Vegas and Alaska before returning to Fresno to play the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. at Save Mart Center.

Tickets are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497), or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
