Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
N. CHARLESTON, SC â The South Carolina Stingrays scored four first-period goals on their way to a 5-2 win over the Pee Dee Pride on Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. South Carolina got off to a quick start as Rich Peverley netted a power-play goal just 4:35 into the game to make it 1-0. The Stingrays doubled their lead just 1:19 later, as Kevin Spiewak gathered in a loose puck at the top of the crease and slid a shot past Nick Boucher for his sixth goal of the season. Ed Courtenay made it 3-0 South Carolina at 10:54 as he ripped a shot past Boucher from the left-wing circle. Pee Dee finally got on the scoreboard at 15:11 as Allan Sirois roofed a shot over the left shoulder of Kirk Daubenspeck for his 10th goal of the season. But, it took the Stingrays just 2:43 to re-take a three-goal lead, scoring their second power-play goal of the period. Great passing around the perimeter led to an easy tip-in for Robin Gomez on the near post making it 4-1 after 20 minutes of play. It was a wild first period that featured 21 penalty minutes aside, and three fights. Things calmed down considerably in the second period, as neither team was able to score, and there was just one fight, and one other penalty whistled. South Carolina took a 5-1 lead just 1:32 into the final period as Trevor G. Johnson's shot from the left-wing circle was tipped in front by Jeff BOulanger for his second goal of the season. The Pride climbed back to within three at 2:09, as Gregg Johnson's blast from the center point beat Daubenspeck for a power-play tally, and Johnson's sixth goal of the season. Pee Dee's three-game road trip concludes on Tuesday with a 7:00 face-off in Augusta against the Lynx. Catch all of the action on WDAR Sunny 105.5 and _www.peedeepride.com_ (http://www.peedeepride.com/) starting with the Palmetto Chiropractic Pre-Game Show at 6:40.
