Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The ECHL released the 2004-05 playing schedule today and the Central Division Champion Gwinnett Gladiators will begin their quest for the Kelly Cup on the road in Augusta on October 22nd.

The Gladiators will open their second season at the Arena at Gwinnett Center the following week as they host the Eastern Conference Champion Florida Everblades on October 29th.

The Gladiators 2004-2005 season consists primarily of family friendly dates with a total of 29 of the scheduled dates falling on a weekend or holiday date. The Gladiators will play 21 of their 36 home games on either Friday (13) or Saturday (8) throughout the season. In addition, five of the Gladiators remaining 15 home games will be played on Sunday afternoons. Other games of note include South Carolina visiting the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25th, Augusta on Sunday, December 26th and South Carolina on Tuesday, December 28th.

"It is a very solid home schedule," said General Manager Steve Chapman, "with quality dates and opponents for us to build promotions around. We can now begin to add more fun to the mix through events, giveaways and appearances. One thing that will certainly stand out is when we raise the ECHL Central Division Championship banner on our opening night."

Gwinnett finished its inaugural season setting team records for most points, wins and home wins in team history, and will see one new opponent at the Arena at Gwinnett Center as the Texas Wildcatters make their first of three trips to Duluth on Tuesday, November 9th .

Louisiana, who the Gladiators defeated to become Central Division Champions, will make three trips to the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators will close out the home schedule against the Lynx on April 8th.

The Gladiators will also make a West Coast swing this season from March 22nd to the 29th where they will travel to Fresno, Long Beach, Bakersfield and San Diego. While the Gladiators do have a quality home schedule, the team's year end schedule will be a hectic one. Including the West Coast road trip, the Gladiators finish the season with 14 games in 23 nights.

"There are some tough stretches for us," conceded Chapman, "and the end of the year is a little more packed than I would have liked when you hope to be making a playoff run. But the league did a great job of working with us on some last minute scheduling conflicts at the Arena and we'll have to fight through it. I would love to say that I don't expect it to be as tight a playoff race this season as last season, but I bet it is."

Season Ticket Packages, including full season, half season and Flex Books, for the 2004-05 season are available by contacting the Gladiators office at 770-497-5100.
