Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â The Alaska Aces face a rematch of the 2004 Pacific Division Finals at Idaho in the 2004-05 season opener October 22, then return home for the first of a three-game series at Sullivan Arena against the San Diego Gulls Friday, October 29.
Alaska swept San Diego in three straight games to open the 2004 Kelly Cup playoffs before bowing to the eventual league champion Steelheads in four games in the Pacific Division Finals. The division welcomes a new foe in 2004-05, the Victoria Salmon Kings, who meet the Aces for the first time at Sullivan Arena Wednesday, November 17. Other ECHL teams making their first appearance in Anchorage will be the Mississippi Sea Wolves (December 17-19) of the Central Division and the Wheeling Nailers (February 11-13) of the Northern Division.
The Aces will face three other opponents for the first time in club history this season when they travel to Peoria, Dayton, and Toledo in mid-February. 29 of their 36 home games will take place on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, as opposed to 26 during the 2003-04 season. Two of those contests (February 5 and 26) will take place on a Saturday afternoon, as part of an Aces-UAA doubleheader at Sullivan Arena. Saturday night's game against Victoria on November 20 will be the back end of another doubleheader at the Sully, with UAA playing in the afternoon.
Once again, the regular season schedule features 72 games, 36 at home and 36 on the road. Alaska meets Idaho and Victoria 10 times each, San Diego and Las Vegas nine times, Fresno and Bakersfield eight times, Long Beach seven times, Peoria, Wheeling, and Mississippi three times, and Dayton and Toledo once each. That breakdown means that more than half (37 of 72) of Alaska's games will be against teams who qualified for the 2004 Kelly Cup playoffs, including nine of 11 against clubs outside the Pacific Division.
Game times are subject to change, and the Aces are expected to announce the starting times for all of their home games early next month. 2004-05 season tickets are on sale now. Once again, next year KFQD 750 AM will broadcast all Alaska Aces games, with the live feed also available at www.alaskaaces.com.
