Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors professional hockey team of the ECHL have introduced their schedule for the 2004-05 season.

Bakersfield will open the campaign at home against the newest addition to the Pacific Division, when the Victoria Salmon Kings come to town on October 22nd and 23rd. In addition, continuing with the recent trend for Bakersfield, they will help christen the new arena in Victoria for the Salmon Kings first-ever home series in early December. Bakersfield also helped open new arenas in Fresno and Las Vegas last season.

The 72-game docket, which is made up of 36 home and 36 road games, includes 10 Friday night games, 13 Saturday night games and two Sunday matches at Centennial Garden. There will also be four Thursday games, three Tuesday games, and two each on Mondays and Wednesdays. One home preseason game is planned as well, but the date has not been finalized.

Bakersfield will again make a cross-country venture, with a six-game, 10-day trek out to the East Coast. They will play two games against the Roanoke (Va.) Express and one game each against the Trenton Titans, Reading (Pa.) Royals, Johnstown (Pa.) Chiefs, and Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies.

Four teams from the three other divisions will travel to Bakersfield to play six games, with the Northern Division's Toledo Storm coming to town for a two-game set on November 11th and 12th. The Wheeling Nailers, who won 51 games a season ago, come in on February 17th. From the Southern Division, the Greenville Grrrowl makes one visit in early December, and the Central Division's Gwinnett Gladiators play two games at the Garden in late March. Gwinnett reached the Western Conference finals in 2003-04 before bowing out to eventual Kelly Cup Winner Idaho.

Of the 72 games, 60 will be against divisional foes. There are 10 matchups against both Fresno and Long Beach, nine against San Diego and Las Vegas, eight against newcomers Victoria, and seven against both Alaska and Idaho. The reigning Kelly Cup Champion Steelheads will first come to town on December 18th.

Other dates of interest on the home schedule include a game on Election Day, November 2nd, games on Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends, and on Good Friday, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day as well.

"We're pretty happy with the schedule we have," said BSE President Matthew Riley. "We have some fresh blood coming into town, with four teams Condors fans have never seen before, and we'll host the Kelly Cup Champions four times. Plus, we have a good amount of weekend games, which are always more convenient for the families to come out to."

The promotional schedule will be released later this summer, but the complete game-by-game game is listed below, with tentative starting times. Season tickets for the 2004-05 Bakersfield Condors season are on sale now by contacting the BSE offices at 324-PUCK (7825).

Steelheads collect the hardware: The Condors would like to congratulate their former West Coast Hockey League foes, the Idaho Steelheads, who won the Kelly Cup as ECHL Champions on Saturday night, with a 5-2 victory. They earned the title four-games-to-one over the Florida Everblades. The Pacific Division made a strong impact in its first year of assimilation in the ECHL, with the San Diego Gulls collecting the Brabham Cup as the regular season's points leader.
