Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators dropped a 3-2 decision to the Florida Everblades on Friday night at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida. Gwinnett drops to 18-16-3-2 on the season with the loss as the Gladiators are now winless in their last three road games.

Gwinnett jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the Everblades on the first shift of the game. Chris Higgins deflected a puck past Everblades netminder Barry Brust for his 6th goal of the season 24 seconds into the first period. Pat Galivan collected a helper on the marker taking the initial shot though traffic from the right wing circle for Gwinnett.

The Gladiators lead didn't last long as Florida tied the game at one a little over a minute later. With a delayed penalty coming to the Gladiators, Ross Carlson was able to jam a loose puck through the legs of Gladiators netminder Danny Taylor for the marker. Brandon Buck and Chris Capraro had the helpers on the Everblades goal.

The Everblades took the lead 1:36 into the second period. Colin Nicholson ripped a snapshot from the left wing circle past Taylor for the go-ahead goal. Mathieu Roy and A.J. Thelen set up the mark for the Everblades and had the assists on the goal.

Caparo pushed the Everblades lead to 3-1 with his sixth goal of the season and second point of the night beating Taylor on a 2-on-1 break. Milan Gajic set up the marker working in on the odd man rush for the Everblades before feeding Capraro in the slot. Brad Zanon also had an assist on the goal at 13:40 of the second period.

Matt Caruana cut the Everblades lead back to one goal with his 8th goal of the season midway though the third period. Caruana slipped out of a pack of players behind the Everblades net and drifted into the right wing circle before clanking the puck off three goal posts and into the net for the marker. Adam Berti had a helper on the goal but Gwinnett could get no closer.

Taylor finished with 31 saves in the losing effort for the Gladiators in his first start for Gwinnett after being reassigned from AHL Syracuse on Monday. Special teams did not play a factor in the contest as both teams went scoreless on the man advantage.

The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on Saturday, January 23rd @ Florida at 7:30 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
