Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that forward Tom Zanoski and rookie defenseman Sam Roberts have been called up the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. Roberts will make his first appearance in the AHL, while Zanoski makes his third trip this season after playing in eight games with the Binghamton Senators and two with the Albany River Rats.

Roberts, fresh off his two-point outing at the ECHL All-Star game in Ontario, California, is tied with teammate and fellow All-Star Drew Paris for the league lead in rookie defenseman points with 24 through 38 games. The 25-year-old St. John's, Newfoundland native skated four collegiate seasons at Nova Scotia's St. Francis Xavier University, where he registered 70 points in 109 games, before signing on with the Gladiators this season.

Zanoski, a third-year pro out of Dalhousie University, made his pro debut with the Stockton Thunder in 2007 before returning to Dalhousie to wrap up the 2007-08 season. He then rejoined the pro ranks last season, spending short stints with Stockton and Dayton before being traded in January of 2009 to Gwinnett, where he played 31 regular season games and led the Gladiators with eight points in five playoff contests. The 25-year-old Brampton, Ontario native has recorded 34 points in 26 games with the Gladiators this season. In his 10 games in the AHL, he has posted one assist and eight penalty minutes.

The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on Saturday, January 23rd @ Florida at 7:30 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
