
Everblades Top Gwinnett 3-2

ESTERO, FL-- The Florida Everblades and the Gwinnett Gladiators opened there weekend series at Germain arena with high intensity play. Florida dominated the first two periods to enter the third with a two goal lead.Ross Carlson, Colin Nicholson, and Chris Capraro all scored for Florida. Gwinnett made it 3-2 in the third off of a shot by Matt Caruana, but solid defence saw the Everblades win 3-2.
The first period opened with a bang as the Gwinnett Gladiators raced towards the net. Barry Brust deflected the puck, but a bad bounce saw Gwinnett's Chris Higgins score with only 24 seconds elapsed. The Florida Everblades were undaunted and shortly answered back, Brandon Buck and Chris Capraro got the puck to team captain Ross Carlson.
Carlson banged it home for his team leading twelfth goal of the season.
Florida appeared fierce in the second as they continued to battle the Gwinnett Gladiators. Colin Nicholson increased the Everblades lead when he took a pass from Mathieu Roy and ECHL All-Star AJ Thelen. With the score at 2-1 Jordan Morrison looked to add insurance. He took a pass and sent the puck into the air barley missing the back of the net.
Elgin Reid looked to have a scoring opportunity, but got tripped up in the Gladiator end and took a hard slid into the boards. Gwinnett had some solid scoring chances late in the period, but net-minder Barry Brust continued his stellar play, with a series of good saves in front of his net. Chris Capraro, went high and scored the insurance marker at 13:14 off of a pass from Milan Gajic and Brad Zanon. Gwinnetts best chance came on Michael Forney's breakaway opportunity. Forney made his way past Florida's defenseman to challenge goaltender Barry Brust.
Brust stepped in with the poke check and denied Gwinnett.The period concluded 3-1 in favor of the Everblades.
Both teams came on strong in the third period. The Everblades had a good opportunity when Mike Bayrack skated into Gwinnett's end and passed the biscuit to Kevin Baker. The pass went wide and Gwinnett cleared the puck.Gwinnett pulled within one goal after Matt Caruana sent the puck over Brust's shoulder. The final 20 seconds saw Ernie Hartlieb drop the gloves with Matt Siddall to finish out the period.
Even though Gwinnett came on strong, excellent goaltending and strong defense saw the Florida Everblades overcome the Gwinnett Gladitors 3-2 in Germain Arena.
