January 22, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals scored early and often on Friday night against the Toledo Walleye at the Lucas County Arena in Toledo, Ohio, scoring four first-period goals en route to a 7-2 victory. Tyler Donati had two goals and an assist, while Mat Robinson had three assists and a +4 in the Jackals first victory all-time against the Walleye.

In the first period, Donati cutting on the left wing found Keegan Dansereau flying toward the net. Dansereau one-timed Donati's feed to give the Jackals the 1-0 advantage at 4:43 of the first period.

With the Jackals on their first power play of the game, Robinson found Olivier Proulx streaking from the left wing side, and the Jackals captain knocked it in glove side past Walleye goaltender Alec Richards to make it 2-0 at 8:17 of the first period.

Minutes later, Jarrett Konkle brought the puck into the offensive zone, deked forehand-backhand, and beat Richards glove side to make it 3-0.

The Jackals converted on another one-timer, with defenseman Michael Busto, skating as a forward for much of the game, taking a Brendan Connolly feed and sending it past Richards for his first goal with the Jackals at 16:49 of the first period, making it 4-1.

After Scooter Smith scored late in the first period for the Walleye, Donati regained the four-goal advantage, cutting in front of Richards at 9:40 of the second period and sending it past his right pad for his 50th point of 2009-2010.

In the third period, the Jackals took a 6-1 lead when Brennan Turner had the puck come to him in the high slot after a Bear Trapp scoring chance was stopped. Turner knocked it past Richards, his teammate at Yale University, for his third goal of the season, giving the Jackals a five-goal lead at 7:44 of the third period.

Moments later, Konkle and Donati broke in on a two-on-one, and Konkle fed it for Donati who backhanded the puck past Richards at 9:22 of the third period for his second goal of the contest, making it 7-1 in favor of Elmira.

Mark Nebus added a goal for Toledo at 11:26 of the third period to give the Walleye their second goal of the contest, but that was it for the scoring, as the Jackals cruised to the final buzzer, winning 7-2.

Julien Ellis made 25 saves on 27 shots, earning his sixth win with the Jackals. Richards made 23 saves on 30 shots in the loss, and was pulled after the Jackals' seventh goal in favor of Jordan Pearce, who stopped all four shots he saw.

The Jackals improved to 19-17-2-2 on the season, while the Walleye fell to 23-14-1-3 and had their six-game winning streak snapped in the process.

The win was 99th regular season victory for Steve Martinson as the coach of the Jackals. He can earn his 100th victory tomorrow night in Toledo, the city in which his professional playing career began. The game begins at 7:00 p.m.

After this weekend, the Jackals return home for a hat trick weekend of hockey, as the Jackals host the Gwinnett Gladiators on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29 and 31 at 7:35 p.m., and the Walleye on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 4:05 p.m.
