Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Scott Fletcher has been assigned to the Royals from the Providence Bruins of the AHL. In a separate transaction, the Royals released forward Travis Whitehead.

Fletcher, a first year pro from Haslett, Michigan, who signed an AHL contract with Providence this past summer, was assigned to Reading by the Bruins prior to the start of the ECHL season. While with Reading, Fletcher played sixteen games, scoring two goals, assisting on one other, and picking up thirty-four penalty minutes. Fletcher was recalled to Providence on December 4, 2009, where he picked up twenty-two penalty minutes in eight games before sustaining an injury and missing the Bruins' last eleven consecutive games. Whitehead played in three games for the Royals without registering a point.

Fletcher is expected to be in the lineup tonight (Friday, January 22, 2010 @ 7:05 pm) when the Royals face the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, South Carolina. The Royals game day radio broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off at 6:35 pm.
