Gladiators Bite Grizzlies, 5-1

The Gwinnett Gladiators notched a 5-1 win over the Utah Grizzlies in the first ever meeting between the two teams. Gwinnett used 36 saves from Louis Domingue and two goals from Sacha Guimond to lead the Gladiators to the win.

The Gladiators capitalized on two big rebounds given up by Utah netminder Adam Morrison to take a 2-0 lead after the opening period. Guimond had the first as he notched his 10th goal of the season as he picked up a rebound in the slot and flipped the puck past Morrison to open the scoring. Yuri Bouharevich and Casey Pierro-Zabotel had the assists on the goal 4:15 in to the first.

Evan Bloodoff's rebound goal came with two seconds left in the first period as he crashed the net to find the loose put and jam it past Morrison. Brad Nunn had his first professional point with an assist on the goal. Pierro-Zabotel also tallied his second helper of the game for Gwinnett.

Guimond added his second goal of the game in the second period to extend the Gladiators lead to 3-0. Guimond beat Morrision through traffic at 14:26 of the second on the power play. Andy Brandt and Justin Bowers collected the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.

Gwinnett put the game away in the third with another pair of goals. Pierro-Zabotel had the first of the two third period markers 9:16 into the final period. Pierro-Zabotel beat Morrison from point blank range in the slot for the goal. Cody Brookwell had an assist on the goal for Gwinnett.

Just 41 seconds later, Joey Haddad pushed Gwinnett's lead to 5-0 on his 15th goal of the season. Haddad finished a 2-on-1 break with Justin Bowers and beat Morrison ranging across the crease.

Berkley Scott snapped Domingue's shutout bid with 1:42 left in the third period. Scott beat the Gwinnett netminder through traffic off assists from Jonathan Lessard and Sebastien Trudeau.

Gwinnett is back in action on Friday in Boise, Idaho to take on the Idaho Steelheads at 9:10 p.m. at the CenturyLink Arena.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
