
Titans Keep Playoff Hopes Alive with 4-2 Home Win over Elmira

Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, defeated the Elmira Jackals,4-2, Thursday night at the Sun National Bank Center behind two goals from Blake Kessel and a 24 save performance from Cal Heeter.
Elmira (33-21-3-4, 73 pts) struck first when Andrew Rowe tipped a pass by Cal Heeter (2-1) at 11:26 for the only goal of the first period.
The Titans (25-28-4-4, 58 pts) jumped all over the Jackals in the second, tying the game just 31 seconds into the period on Blake Kessel's 7 th of the season, assisted by Andy Bombach and Shane Harper. The home team then grabbed the lead six minutes later on a power play goal from Bryan Haczyk. Bombach earned his second assist of the night on Haczyk's 8 th power play tally (13 th overall) of the year. Jacop Cepis was credited with the secondary assist on the play.
Jesse Todd added an insurance goal 91 seconds into the third when he buried a loose puck with Clermont down to put the home team up 3-1. Todd's 3 rd of the season came from Cepis and Mike Ullrich. Kessel scored his second of the game at 7:01. Andrew Johnston earned an assist on the play.
Kyle Bushee scored a late goal for Elmira to round out the scoring. Maxime Clermont (16-11-3-2, 30 saves) took the loss for the Jackals after being a late addition when Ian Keserich was scratched after warm ups.
The Titans went 1-for-2 on the power play, and were able to kill off the only man-advantage they surrendered to the Jackals. The PK unit remains among the best in the ECHL, operating at a rate of 85.4%. The Titans are now 5-5-1-1 against Elmira this season, and will have a chance to climb over the .500 mark against the division rivals when the Jackals come back to town next Sunday (3/17) for the last meeting in Trenton this season.
The victory kicks off a five-game home stand for the Titans. They are back in action tomorrow night against the Wheeling Nailers (7:05 pm) and will then clash with the Orlando Solar Bears for the last time this year on Sunday at 3:05.
