Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID (3/6/13) - Adam Brown stopped 25 of 26 shots in a game slowed by whistles leading to a total of 15 combined power plays Wednesday night as the Colorado Eagles edged the Idaho Steelheads, 2-1, at CenturyLink Arena in Boise.

Tyler Beskorowany was solid in defeat for Idaho (38-16-7, 83 points), stopping 39 of Colorado's 41 shots. The loss snapped Idaho's eight-game unbeaten in regulation streak. It was also Idaho's first loss to Colorado on the season as the Steelheads won the season series, 7-1.

Colorado drew the game's first power-play opportunity just ten seconds into the game as Idaho's Brett Robinson was called for boarding, setting the tone for a marathon first period that took nearly 40 minutes as eight minor penalties led to power plays in the opening period alone. The Eagles didn't score on their first man advantage, but did tally on the power play at 3:56 of the first period on a Steve Haddon goal from the slot, making it 1-0.

Idaho would respond, also on the power play, at 9:27 of the first. Jeremie Blain's shot from the center point was steering wide of the net, but Tyler Gron was right there to deflect the puck past Brown, Gron's 16th of the season in just 24 games with the Steelheads, evening the game at 1-1. Blain's assist extended his point streak to six consecutive games.

Midway through the second, just moments after Beskorowany made a terrific leg-pad save at the right post, a Colin Bowman power-play shot from the center point sailed through traffic and past a screened Beskorowany at 10:26 to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Both goaltenders traded saves the rest of the way, the biggest coming in the later stages of the third period when Brown denied Justin Taylor from the hash marks between the circles.

Colorado finished the game 2 for 8 on the power play while Idaho was 1 for 7.

Idaho's nine-game homestand continues Friday as the Gwinnett Gladiators of the Eastern Conference make their first trip to Boise since the 2004 ECHL Western Conference finals.
