Gladiators Announce Playoff Scenarios

April 1, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced possible first round playoff scenarios for the 2008 ECHL South Division Quarterfinals today. With one week remaining in the 2007-08 ECHL regular season, the Gladiators have already clinched one of the top 3 seeds and home ice advantage in the first round of the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The Gladiators will face Charlotte, Columbia or Augusta in the South Division Quarterfinals. The Gladiators will host Game 1 & Game 2 as well as Game 5, if necessary, of the series at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Game 1 is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th at 7:05 p.m. while Game 2 is set for Thursday, April 10th at 7:05 p.m. Game 5, if necessary, will be on Tuesday, April 15th at 7:05 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Compete playoff schedule scenarios against all three teams follow this release.

Gwinnett is currently tied for second place in the ECHL's South Division with the South Carolina Stingrays. Gwinnett and South Carolina both have 91 points and three games remaining in the regular season. South Carolina owns the head-to-head tie-breaker if the two teams finish the regular season tied in standings points and regular season wins.

After a pair of wins over the Florida Everblades last weekend, Gwinnett can finish no lower than third place in the ECHL's South Division. With a second or third seed in the South Division, Gwinnett will play either the 6th place or 7th place team in the ECHL's South Division.

The Florida Everblades can finish no lower than 5th place and Gwinnett will not face the Everblades in the opening round. Charlotte is the only team that can pass Florida into 4th place in the South Division. Despite being able to pass Florida in the standings, Charlotte can finish as low as 7th place in the South Division. Mississippi has 8th place locked up while the Texas Wildcatters have a stranglehold on the top spot in the division.
