Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors held the Country Music Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction this past Saturday night, raising a total of $31,600 for the Valley Achievement Center. Saturday night's grand total ranks second highest all- time and is only $600 shy of the of the Condors jersey auction record.

Andrew Ianiero's jersey also came close to a Condors record, going for an astounding $5,100, only $100 short of the all-time single jersey record. The Condors three jersey auctions during the 2007-08 season have raised a combined $83,775 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Children's Miracle Network and the Valley Achievement Center.

Valley Achievement Center is local a non-profit agency that serves people of all ages with autism through a private school for autistic students and by providing supportive living services and employment programs for adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.

"Valley Achievement Center is the only non-profit, non-public agency for persons with autism in the Southern San Joaquin," said Director of Marketing and Resource Development Patrick Frase. "We appreciate all the people that came out to support our cause; your fans are so generous and I was so impressed by the Condors organization. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Sponsored by Bright House Networks, KUZZ 107.9 and Bud Light, the popular Country Music Jersey featured the Condors traditional logo with a slight modification: rather than holding a hockey stick, the Condor is strumming a signature Buck Owens red, white and blue guitar above a "Condorstown" sign with the Crystal Palace in the background and the image of Buck Owens looking down from the sky. The sheet music to "The Streets of Bakersfield" wraps around the bottom of the jersey. On the back is an image of The Blackboard, the honky tonk where the Bakersfield sound got its start. Local street signs of Buck Owens Blvd. and Merle Haggard Dr. are also present, as the Condors paid tribute to Bakersfield's legendary country music heritage.

Condors Blood Drive helps replenish supply:

The Bakersfield Condors and Houchin Community Blood Bank partnered up during the month of March to help save lives in Kern County. The final week of the Condors blood drive surpassed the Condors previous record, bringing in 730 actual units that week alone. The blood drive generated more than double an average month's total finishing with a grand total of 1,080 blood donations for the 2008 blood drive.

Donors came out in record numbers over the month of March, especially over the week prior to the game on March 31, thanks in part to appearances by Condors Chris Di Ubaldo and Derrick Byfuglien, live broadcasts by KUZZ 107.9 and Colonel Claw'd and Baby Cal standing on Truxtun Avenue urging motorists to stop and donate blood.

"Houchin Blood Bank was proud to partner with the Bakersfield Condors during the month of March, which resulted in an outstanding year from our Condors Fans," said Houchin Blood Bank Community Relations Representative Tracy Hunter. "This drive is of vital importance for Houchin as donations are unusually low for the month of March."

All March blood donors received a voucher for $1 admission to the Condors game on March 31. They were also entered into a drawing to win one of the following prizes: a Condors team-signed jersey, dropping the honorary first puck or tickets to sit in the R & D Leather Furniture "Best Seat in the House."
