Thunder, Rookie Luke Lynes Agree To Terms

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has agreed to terms with rookie left wing Luke Lynes, Thunder head coach Chris Cichocki announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Additionally, it was announced the Thunder has placed rookie center Tyler Hirsch on waivers.

"Luke comes as a highly-recommended player by the Edmonton Oilers scouting department, along with our Head Scout, Blair Nicholson and he's had a solid offensive output throughout his junior career," said Cichocki. "He's played in a defensive-minded system which will suit our style of game."

Lynes, 20, spent his four-year junior career with the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 215 points (100g-115a) in 269 career games, amassing 233 penalty minutes. A fourth round selection (122nd overall) of the Washington Capitals in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Lynes had a career-high 65 points (34g-31a) and career-high tying 34 goals in 68 games with Brampton in 2006-07, leading the team in scoring and goals.

The Ellicott City, Md. native was fourth on Brampton in scoring this season with 64 points (21g-43a) and had 49 penalty minutes in 68 games.

Lynes will join the Thunder on this week's four-game road trip in Salt Lake City, Utah and is expected to make his pro debut in a Thunder uniform (wearing jersey #25) on Thursday, April 3 when the Thunder visits the Utah Grizzlies at 6:05 p.m. from The E-Center.

Hirsch, 24, scored five points (2g-3a) with 12 penalty minutes in nine games with the Thunder this season and was acquired from the Johnstown Chiefs in exchange for future considerations on March 5.

The Thunder embarks on the regular season's final four-game roadtrip beginning tonight against the Fresno Falcons, starting at 7:00 p.m. from Save-Mart Center. The game can be heard live on radio at 1420 KSTN and online at http://www.stocktonthunder.com/, courtesy of B2 Networks.
