Jackals Journal- Week 24

April 1, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, won two of four games last week (2-2-0-0) to remain in second place in the North Division (+4 on Reading) and enter the week with three games left in the 2007-08 regular season. With this past weekend's results, the Jackals' magic number for clinching home ice advantage for the opening round of the playoffs is one. One point gained in the standings by Elmira in its three remaining contests or one point lost in either of the two games left for Reading secures home ice for the Jackals against the Royals in the North Division semifinals.

Friday, March 28th - @ CINCINNATI (2-4 L) Att: 9,615 Shots: 35-29 ELM PP: 0/6 PK: 5/5

Falling behind 2-0 after twenty minutes proved to be too much to overcome for the Jackals in the last regular season meeting with the North Division champions. LUKE FRITSHAW (2) made it a 2-1 game with a drive from the right point fifty-two seconds into the middle period, but MATHIEU AUBIN's goal seven minutes later provided the winning margin. BENOIT DOUCET netted his team-high 29th goal of the year in the final period, but DAVID DESHARNAIS scored into an empty net for his ECHL-leading 99th point to seal the win.

Saturday, March 29th - @ DAYTON (7-2 W) Att: 5,749 Shots: 39-25 ELM PP: 2/4 PK: 3/3

Defenseman ELGIN REID scored his first professional goal sixty-four seconds into the middle period and it stood as the game-winner as the Jackals won for the 40th time, the ninth ECHL club to hit that plateau in 2007-08. MATT JOHNSON (7) scored for the second time in two games to open the scoring while PIERRE-LUC FAUBERT (29) closed out Elmira's weekend offensively with early second period strike.
