Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The Thunder and Royals square off again tonight in an East Division showdown at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Adirondack looks to complete the weekend sweep after a 3-0 shutout in last evening's contest. The Thunder have controlled the season series to date with five wins from six games and the two sides will see each other five more times between now and the end of February.

SIM CITY: With Ken Appleby's recall to Albany of the AHL and Drew Fielding claimed on waivers by the Brampton Beast, Kent Simpson has taken the reins as Adirondack's number one between the pipes. Simpson turned aside all 42 shots he faced last night as he earned his third shutout of the season, the Thunder's eighth. Simpson, who is now tied for the ECHL lead in shutouts, has amassed six wins, a 2.09 goals against average and a .936 save percentage in nine appearances with the Thunder this season.

THE TEAM WHO CRIED WOLFE: Greg Wolfe collected a pair of goals in last night's win, his first multi-goal game of the season and the fifth of his career. The Michigan State graduate currently sits fourth on the Thunder with 22 points (9-13-22) this season. Wolfe leads all Thunder players with five points (3-2-5) in six games against Reading, complimented by a team best +3 rating. The Canton, MI native originally began his professional career with the Royals in 2014.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD: Adirondack has been dominant on the penalty kill over their last twelve games, allowing just one power-play goal in that span. The Thunder have killed off 43 of their past 44 shorthanded attempts, conceding only to Manchester last Friday, and they have matched that number during that span with a shorthanded goal from Gunnar Hughes on January 9 against South Carolina. The Thunder's current run has moved them from 19th in the ECHL at 80.5% to 12th in the league at 84.7%.

FORT WILLIAM HENRY: Forward James Henry found the scoresheet twice in last night's win with a pair of assists. After he missed much of the first half of the season with an injury, Henry has come on offensively as of late with five points (2-3-5) over his last six games. The third-year pro was near the top of the scoring charts for the Stockton Thunder last season, as he finished the season fourth on the team with 43 points (10-33-43).

ASTON MARTIN: Despite a 1-4-1 record against Adirondack this season, the Royals have received solid goaltending against the Thunder, led by five appearances by Martin Ouellette. The former Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick is 1-4 but has a 1.89 goals against average and a .926 save percentage in those five starts. Ouellette has also collected a shutout against Adirondack, which came back on January 3 in Reading.
