Quad City Mallards News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Jack Downing scored at 2:16 of overtime to give the host Cincinnati Cyclones (20-17-5) a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Quad City Mallards (19-19-4) Saturday night.

The Mallards did earn one point, thanks in good part to Brody Hoffman's standout 39 save effort in goal.

Downing- who also had an assist- capped off the Cyclones' comeback from a 2-0 deficit by scoring the winning goal on a 2-on-1 rush.

The Cyclones forced overtime when Tom Mele walked in on goal to tie the score at two with 4:35 left in the third period.

Zach Budish had gotten Cincinatti on the scoreboard for the first time by rifling Downing's cross-ice feed in under the crossbar at 8:52 of the second period.

The Mallards were unable to hold the lead after striking twice in the first period. Kevin Henderson tipped in the opening goal 11:11 of the first. The Mallards stretched the advantage to 2-0 when Vladimir Nikiforov buried Matt Neal's centering pass at the 14:26 mark.

The Mallards return to action on the road tomorrow against the Toledo Walleye. The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
