LOVELAND, COLORADO -The Colorado Eagles used a huge second period scoring surge, blasting their way past the Alaska Aces 7-2 Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center.

The Eagles scored four times in the second, three goals by defensemen.

Colorado jumped to a 1-0 lead at 8:23 of the first period. Alaska's Tim Coffman fell at his own blueline try to get the puck out of the zone, allowing Johnny Lazo to bolt into the slot and beat Aces goaltender Steven Summerhays, who got a piece of the shot but not enough. It was Lazo's 8th goal of the season and it was unassisted.

Late in the period, with 12.2 seconds to go to be exact, Eagles defenseman Collin Bowman sent a shot from the right wing boards that Kyle Kraemer deflected past a surprised Summerhays, Kraemer's 12th goal of the season. The ECHL's second-leading scorer, Trent Daavettila, also assisted on the tally.

In the second period, the Eagles filled the Alaska net with pucks. Defenseman Colin Bowman got his second goal in two nights, a blast from the blueline at 7:21 that eluded Summerhays for his 12th goal of the season. Then another defenseman, Colin Joe blasted home a shot from the left circle for his second goal of the season to make it 4-0. Summerhays was chased by another defenseman goal, this one from Adrian Veidemann, his second goal in two nights and 6th of the season. Finally, Jesse Mychan nailed one past Troy Redmann, who came into the game in relief of Summerhays, at 18:24 of the third. Sensing a trend here...it was Mychan's second goal in two games as well. 6-0 Colorado after two.

In the third, it was chaos, starting with the scoring. Alaska rattled the cage a bit as Peter Sivak took a pass from Stephen Perfetto and scored his 8th goal of the season at 52 seconds. That goal was followed by Mitch Jones' 4th goal of the season to make it a 6-2 game at 2:45. Colorado would end any thoughts of a comeback though with Lazo's second goal of the game at 3:20.

The rest of the third period was a penalty-filled mess.

For the game, the Aces took 18 penalties for 79 minutes. Colorado absorbed 14 penalties for 39 minutes.

Shots on goal were even at 32.

Alaska now travels to Idaho to start a three game series with the Steelheads Wednesday.

The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena to face the defending ECHL champion Allen Americans at the Sullivan Arena February 10, 12 and 13. It will be Aces Hall of Fame weekend. For tickets, stop by the Aces ticket office at 15th and Gambell Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
