Hall of Fame Night Sees World Class Game Go Walleye Way 2-1

(Toledo, OH) Josh Shalla broke a 1-1 tie with a goal with just 2:20 left in the third period as the Walleye defeated Fort Wayne 2-1 Saturday night in front of a standing room only crowd of 8,200 at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 26-11-1-3 and 13-5-0-1 at home.

Both teams traded chances in the first period with Fort Wayne holding a 7-5 shot advantage. The scoreless game continued A.J. Jenks (13th) found the back of the net with a wrist shot at 13:02 of the second period. The Komets tied the game with a power play goal at 17:22 of the second period.

Josh Shalla took a pass from Andrew Prochno and raced up the ice with 2:20 left in the third period and beat Komets goaltender Pat Nagle between the pads. The 8th goal of the season from Shalla erupted the Huntington Center.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced and improved his record to 19-4-0-2 on the season. Lerg has won 16 of his last 18 starts. Shane Berschbach had his point streak stopped at ten consecutive games which ties him for the longest in Walleye history. A.J. Jenks had his assist streak snapped at eight straight games but does a point in nine straight contests (5g, 9A). The sellout tonight was the tenth of the season for the Walleye. Toledo has won six of the first seven games on the eight game streak of home contests.
