NORFOLK, Va. - After securing an 8-2 victory last night against South Carolina, the Norfolk Admirals fell 6-1 to the Stingrays Saturday night at Scope Arena.

Brandon Magee scored his seventh goal of the season for the first strike of the night. As Admiral Alexandre Ranger sat for hooking, South Carolina defenseman Nick D'Agostino carried the puck into the right circle. D'Agostino dished it to Magee at the back door, who hit the twine at 9:03 in the first period.

The Admirals answered when winger Janick Asselin caused a turnover behind Stingrays' netminder Mark Dekanich's net. Asselin fed it in front to Greg Chase at the high slot where he tied the game 1-1 at 13:42.

With 23.9 seconds remaining in the opening frame, forward Joe Devin's shot from the left ring went into the back of Nic Riopel's net, putting South Carolina on top at the end of the opening frame, 2-1.

In the middle period, Magee converted for his second power-play goal of the night. Riopel denied Patrick Gaul's slap shot at the left dot, but Magee was there at the hash marks to make another attempt for South Carolina. As Riopel knocked it away, Magee collected his own rebound at 7:34 to widen the margin to 3-1.

South Carolina scored their third man-advantage marker with 4:28 left in the period. Blueliner Brendan Ellis flung one from the high slot towards a screened Riopel. The shot floated into the top shelf, signaling the end of Riopel's night and the beginning of Ty Rimmer's. The frame ended with the Stingrays in the lead, 4-1.

Just 3:41 into the third period off a draw in the left circle, David Pacan passed the puck to defenseman Marcus Perrier near the right post for Perrier's only point of the night, making it 5-1. Forward Paul Rodrigues' empty-netter put the sixth and final goal on the board for South Carolina at 17:15 in the final frame, and the Stingrays earned the weekend split with a 6-1 victory.

Riopel turned away 16 of 20 in 35 minutes of action, while Rimmer saved eight of nine Stingrays attempts in 22 minutes. South Carolina goaltender Dekanich denied 37 of 38 Norfolk shots. The Stingrays went three-for-five on the power play, and the Admirals went scoreless on four man advantages.

The Admirals head to New York to face the Adirondack Thunder on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at Glen Falls Civic Center.
