Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: This is the second meeting of the season between division rivals Adirondack and Norfolk, the second of 10 scheduled meetings this season. Adirondack and Norfolk last faced each other in an early morning game on November 18, 2015 as Adirondack defeated the Admirals 3-2. The Thunder return to the ice after a week-long break, where the team scored five unanswered goals to defeat the Brampton Beast 5-2 on December 4th. Adirondack is currently two points behind Manchester in the East Division standings with six games in hand.

LAST TIME OUT: The Thunder won in great style, with five different players scoring five unanswered goals to defeat the Brampton Beast 5-2. Rob Bordson and Michael Kirkpatrick each had multi point games, and Ryan Lomberg had a shorthanded goal to lead the offensive explosion.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: Not only are the Thunder still undefeated at the Glens Falls Civic Center this season, but their home penalty kill has been just about perfect. Adirondack has allowed only two power play goals in six home games for a penalty killing total of 91.3%, good enough for second in the league.

NOTED KIRK: Thunder forward Michael Kirkpatrick had a fine offensive week with four points (2-2-4) in Adirondack's two victories over the Brampton Beast. Kirkpatrick extended his scoring streak to four games through the weekend, where he surged into the team's active scoring lead with Rob Bordson moving up to the AHL with Iowa. The North Sydney, NS native's eight goals trail only Bordson and also lead active skaters.

SHOUT TO THE DEVILS: The Thunder received reinforcements this past week with forwards Ben Johnson and Alex Carrier assigned to Adirondack. Carrier has appeared in 12 games with the Thunder this season and collected 4 points (1-3-4). Johnson appeared in 12 ECHL games last season with the Orlando Solar Bears, where he collected eight points (3-5-8). The Calumet, MI native also appeared in 28 games with Albany, where he netted a goal and an assist.

SHOTS THROUGH THE HEART: Despite being outshot in 12 of their 17 games played, the Thunder have lost just one of those 12. All three goaltenders who have started for Adirondack in recent weeks have recorded wins, and the Thunder are now averaging over 28 shots taken per game. With all the shots being fired at the goal in the game, Adirondack has also never lost when leading after two periods.

BYE BYE BIRDIES: Rob Bordson and David Shields have both signed AHL PTO's, Bordson with the Iowa Wild and Shields with the Utica Comets. Bordson, Adirondack's leading scorer, is entering his second AHL stint of the season after 10 games with Providence, while Shields is returning to the AHL for the first time in 2015-16.
