Elmira Propels Past Monarchs in Shootout, 2-1

ELMIRA, NY - December 11, 2015 - C.J. Motte stifled Manchester's offense with 44 saves and three more in the shootout to propel the Jackals past the Monarchs 2-1 tonight at First Arena in the Star Wars Weekend opener.
There were just two goals scored during regulation and overtime with both coming in the first period on the power-play. First, the Monarchs fired the first salvo with a power-play marker from Darik Angeli at 13:34. Yann Sauve and David Kolomatis earned the assists on Angeli's second goal of the season. Just 90 seconds later the Jackals countered on a power-play of their own knotting the game at 1-1. Mike Seidel fed the puck to Nathan Oystrick who found Allan McPherson sliding through the slot for his sixth of the season at 15:04 of the frame.
C.J. Motte continued his sensational play in the second period thwarting all 18 shots he faced throughout the 20 minute frame. Doug Carr turned aside all 10 he had to stop in the second period to send the game to the third period still tied at 1-1.
Each team had its chances to take the lead in the third period, but the netminders stood tall sending the contest into overtime tied 1-1. The five minute frame of three-on-three hockey did not produce a winner, so the game headed to a shootout. Gasper Kopitar started round one but was stopped by Motte's blocker. Chris Langkow went first for the Jackals but caught the butt-end of Carr's stick. Zac Larraza and Allan McPherson were stopped on their attempts in round two opening the door for a game-deciding round three. Austin Block was shutdown by Motte setting up Kevin Clare for a chance to win the game. Clare started out left on the forehand, moved to the backhand then quickly deked back to the forehand catching Carr out of the net for the game-winning shootout goal.
C.J. Motte turned aside 44 of 45 shots faced and all three in the shootout to earn his seventh win of the season. Doug Carr turned aside 36 of 37 shots faced but allowed one on three attempts in the shootout giving him the loss.
