Wichita is 2-1-0-0 vs. Colorado this season
HEAD-TO-HEAD - This is the fourth meeting of the season between the Thunder and the Eagles. All-time, Wichita is 22-30-4 against Colorado and 6-19-2 on the road in the series.
TODAY - Wichita and Colorado play the middle portion of a three-game set against each other tonight. The Eagles claimed a 2-1 victory on Wednesday to earn their first win of the season-series. Each of the last two meetings have been a 2-1 finish with the home team claiming the first three wins. Wichita is looking to break a five-game losing skid while the Eagles win on Wednesday broke their two-game slide.
ROLLHEISER SHINES - Grant Rollheiser was outstanding on Wednesday night, stopping 31 of 33 shots to help keep the Thunder in the game. He made several highlight reel saves including one in the second where he stopped two rebound opportunities near his crease.
HELD AT TWO - Wichita's offense has been held in check during the team's recent slide. The last time the Thunder scored two or more was on Thanksgiving Eve against the Indy Fuel. Wichita did score five against the Eagles on October 30th at INTRUST Bank Arena and will try to do the same here tonight.
WELCOME BACK - Head Coach Kevin McClelland made his first trip back to the Budweiser Event Center on Wednesday night. The former Stanley Cup Champion was the bench boss in Colorado for two seasons, from 2007-09. He went 87-30-11 and claimed the Governor's Cup during the 2008-09 season. He guided the Eagles to the 2009 President's Cup Finals only to fall to the Texas Brahmas in five games. After leaving Colorado, McClelland was named as the head coach of the Wichita Thunder. Joey Sides also returns to Colorado after spending parts of two seasons with the Eagles. In 2012-13, he had 21 goals and 40 points and was a +14.
MILESTONES - Ian Lowe hit a milestone, notching his 100th ECHL point last week. He needs 12 more games to have played in 300 as a pro. He also needs five more points to hit the 200-point plateau. The fifth-year pro out of Bradwardine, BC is currently in his fourth season in the Air Capital. 160 of his 195 points have come donning Thunder blue. With two more games, Erick Lizon will have reached 200 playing in the ECHL.
SPECIAL - Colorado comes into the game tonight with the league's top power play (23.3%) and second ranked penalty kill (88.7%). Wichita is 4-for-24 over the last five games, good for a clip of 16.7%.
THUNDERBOLTS...Danick Gauthier leads the team in shots with 55...Martin Nemcik and Landon Oslanksi have assists in two of their first three games in Thunder uniforms...Kenton Miller recorded his fifth goal of the season on Wednesday night and first since November 25th... COLORADO NOTES - Darryl Bootland leads the league with 110 penalty minutes while Teigan Zahn is second with 84...Jesse Mychan and Sean Zimmerman are tied in fifth place with 69...Mychan is tied for seventh with 10 goals...Trent Daavettila and Jake Marto are tied for 17th with 13 assists...Eric Levine earned his first win on Wednesday in his first start in an Eagles uniform...
