Brampton Beast News Release

KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN - Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Joel Martin was unbeatable between the pipes and stopped all 34 shots the Brampton Beast threw his way as the K-Wings shut out the Beast 4-0 at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo on Friday night.

Beast starting goaltender Andy Iles made his first appearance between the pipes for Brampton and shook off a rocky start to hold the Beast in the game through three periods. He made 32 saves, including several of the acrobatic variety, to keep the game competitive.

The K-Wings got their home fans into the game almost immediately in the first period. Justin Taylor took advantage of the extra ice and scored on a shorthanded two-on-one just 32 seconds into the hockey game to give Kalamazoo the early lead.

In the latter half of the first period, the Beast found themselves in penalty trouble. After newcomer Ben Power was signalled to the penalty box for slashing at 13:40, Jeremie Blain, upon touching the puck to stop play, sent a shot into the empty net, prompting an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

The K-Wings replied in a big way on the two-minute five-on-three power play as David Gilbert notched his fourth of the season at 15:04 and scored again just 33 seconds later with the second man still in the box, pushing the Kalamazoo lead to 3-0 late in the first period.

The Beast settled down defensively in the second period and held the K-Wings to just eight shots in the frame. The Beast played the second period with revived energy and appeared primed to mount a comeback in the third period.

Ludwig Blomstrand scored through a screen just 1:34 into the third period to push the K-Wings lead to four. The Beast again tightened up defensively throughout the remainder of the game but could not beat the goaltender Martin as he would lead his team to victory.

Notes: The Beast finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill. Molson Three Stars: 3) Justin Taylor 2) David Gilbert 1) Joel Martin.

The Beast and K-Wings are back in action at the Wings Event Center tomorrow night, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 PM. The team returns to the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon as they host the Norfolk Admirals for the first time ever at 2:00 PM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25. Trial Packs for the 2015-16 season are also available starting at $39.99 that include three game tickets.
