Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Evansville, IN - The Cincinnati Cyclones (11-6-2-2) fell to the Evansville IceMen, 7-3, on Friday night. Forwards Nick Huard, Peter Quenneville, and Christiaan Minella scored the goals for the Cyclones.
The IceMen jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, on goals from forwards Vincent Dunn, and Sebastian Strandberg.
The Cyclones wasted little time finding the back of the net in the second while on the power play, when a point shot from defenseman Garrett Noonan was deflected out front, and Huard jammed home the rebound, cutting Evansville's lead to 2-1, 35 seconds into the frame.
The IceMen turned up the offense soon thereafter, receiving two goals in a row from forward Matthew Zay, and lone tallies from forward Tyson Fawcett and defenseman Chris Rumble, putting Evansville up, 6-1, midway through the second.
Cincinnati continued to battle, and with under six minutes left on the power play, Quenneville took a pass from defenseman Mike Ratchuk and hammered home a one-timer, pulling the Cyclones to within four, 6-2, after 40 minutes.
Cincinnati continued to chip away at the IceMen in the third, and 6:44 into the final frame, Minella crashed the net after a mini scrum out front and poked the puck past IceMen goaltender Scott Greenham, pulling the Cyclones to within three, 6-3.
Cincinnati got some good chances late in the frame, however an empty netter from forward Nathan Moon with under a minute left sealed the game for Evansville, as they held on for a 7-3 win.
Goaltenders Neil Conway and Brandon Whitney split time in net, combining to make 32 saves on 39 Evansville shots. The Cyclones were outshot on the night, 39-29, while the power play converted on two of its five chances. The Cyclones and IceMen wrap up their home-and-home on Saturday night in Cincinnati. Faceoff is slated for 7:30pm ET.
