Steelheads Strike Oil
December 11, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Tulsa, OK - Zack Kamrass beat Kevin Carr with a one-time drive at 7:07 of the third period for what would be the game-winner as the Idaho Steelheads (8-14-4) topped the Tulsa Oilers (9-10-2), 4-2 at BOK Center.
About five and a half minutes into a tied third period, the Steelheads were headed to the power play after Ben Walker was whistled for holding. Oilers defenseman Matthieu Brisebois protested the call and earned an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that would give the Steelheads a full-length 5-on-3 advantage.
The Steelheads cashed in with 25 seconds left on that power play when Zach Yuen and Kamrass switched sides at the point on the power play, scissoring high in the zone before Yuen slid the puck back against the grain for Kamrass' blast. It was the defenseman's third goal of the season and would give the Steelheads their first lead. Corbin Baldwin's second goal of the year into an empty net cemented Idaho's first win of the road trip and handed the Oilers just their second regulation loss of the season in a game in which they'd scored first.
That first goal of the contest came just 5:21 into the game when Jordan Kremyr found some space in the neutral zone during the Steelheads' first power play of the night and carried into the Idaho zone, feathering a backhand pass to the slot for Brian Nugent to bury for a shorthanded goal, his third of the season.
After Cole Ully failed to capitalize on the Steelheads' first penalty shot of the season, the Steelheads found the back of the net on a more conventional breakaway, as Kyle Jean snuck behind the Tulsa defense and lifted his first goal as a Steelhead under the crossbar. Jean was sprung by a beautiful stretch pass through the neutral zone by Andre Morrissette.
For the second time in two games, Aaron Harstad scored for the Oilers in the opening minute of the second period to give Tulsa a lead. Idaho answered right back at 3:29 of the second when Tommy Fallen won a battle along the right wing boards, dragged the puck to the middle and floated a puck to the low slot that Jefferson Dahl settled and buried for his team-leading tenth goal of the season.
The Steelheads have scored on three consecutive 5-on-3 opportunities, with tonight's goal pushing them to 20 points in the standings and, as of the end of their game, a three-way tie for ninth in the Western Conference.
The Steelheads finish off their four-game road swing back where it began, taking on the Allen Americans on Sunday afternoon. Puck-drop is at 3:05pm MT at Allen Events Center, with the game available on 93.1FM KTIK and ECHLTV.

Play of the Game:
The Steelheads 5-on-3 has been dependable in December, now accounting for three goals in the past five games for Idaho. Kamrass has been one of the Steelheads most dependable power play blue liners and Yuen has been a solid puck-mover since joining the Steelheads two weeks ago. The two teamed up to put the Steelheads in front with Kamrass' point blast. The Steelheads needed to take advantage of the full-length 5-on-3, as a failure to score would have served as a major momentum swing for the Oilers. Kamrass got it done, and the Steelheads were rewarded for a strong offensive night overall in which they outshot Tulsa 38-25.
