Gameday: Adirondack at Brampton

December 3, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight is the first of a home-and-home series between East Division leader Adirondack and Brampton, who sits last in the North Division. Adirondack and Brampton last met during Brampton's home opener on October 23, as the Thunder defeated the Beast 5-4 in OT and the teams will meet four more times this season, including tomorrow at the Civic Center. The Thunder will begin their third home-and-home series of the season (they are 3-0-1 in those games) and are coming off of three consecutive home wins, as well as their first shootout loss of the season to Elmira on November 28th.

LAST TIME OUT: The Thunder won on Sunday afternoon thanks to Drew Fielding's shutout debut against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits 2-0. Fielding turned aside each of the 32 shots he faced in his professional debut. Jeff Silengo continued his scoring prowess as he collected his second professional goal in his second game with the team, while Mathieu Brodeur added the empty net goal.

FIELDING OF DREAMS: The 25-year old from Burlington, Ontario was the shining star in his pro debut with the Thunder. Fielding turned aside all 32 shots he faced last Sunday against Greenville to earn his first professional victory and shutout in the same night. Fielding joins Ken Appleby and Kent Simpson as netminders to appear for Adirondack this season and is the first to collect a shutout on home ice this season.

WELCOME BACK ROB: After a brief stint with the AHL's Providence Bruins, the Thunder welcome back their leading scorer and captain Rob Bordson. Before his departure, Bordson led the team with 7 goals and 6 assists in 7 games played, as he was named the ECHL's Player of the Month in October. In ten games with the Bruins, Bordson collected five points (1-4-5).

A SHOOTING GALLERY: The Thunder have been outshot in four of their last six games, but it hasn't seemed to bother their offense, defense or goaltenders over the course of the season. In 2015, Adirondack is 8-1-0 when their opponents outshoot them, including Sunday's win over Greenville. In similar fashion, the Thunder are a perfect 4-0 when the allow the game's first goal and are 3-0 when they trail after 20 minutes of play.

BRANDON OF BRAMPTON: Brampton forward Brandon Marino has been one of the hottest players in the ECHL of late with 11 points in his last six games (3-8-11). Marino is Brampton's leading scorer with 21 total points in 17 games, and is one of the biggest reasons why the Beast's power play ranks second in the ECHL at 21.7 percent.

STRONG TO THE FINISH: The Thunder to lock down opponents defensively this season, as they lead the ECHL with 30 goals allowed.  The Thunder have allowed a total of just 7 goals in the second period this year, 9 in the third and none in overtime, which is also fewer than all other ECHL teams.
