Maris Stops 39 Shots as Eagles Beat Aces 2-1 in OT
December 3, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
OEmergency backup goaltender Tate Maris turned aside 39 of the 40 shots he faced and Collin Bowman deflected home the game-winner, as the Eagles defeated the Alaska Aces 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday night in Anchorage.
Colorado found the back of the net first in the contest at the 8:18 mark of the first period on a scrambling effort on top of the crease by forward Derek Rodwell. The goal was assisted by defenseman Channing Boe and forward Kyle Ostrow and was Rodwell's first point of the season. After playing a smart first period in the defensive zone, the Eagles headed into the intermission with a 1-0 lead.
Specialty teams would take center-stage in the second period, as the Eagles were forced to kill-off three Aces powerplays, while failing to capitalize on a man-advantage of their own. Despite being outshot 16-7 in the second period, Colorado finished the first 40 minutes of play still on top 1-0.
Alaska finally slipped a shot past Maris at the 2:54 mark of the third period as forward Tomasso Traversa found a rebound in the low-slot and snapped it home to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team would find a go-ahead goal from that point forward in the final frame of regulation, sending the game sudden death overtime.
With just 41 seconds remaining in sudden death, Eagles forward Ludwig Karlsson released a shot from the top of the circle that was deflected in front by Collin Bowman, beating Aces netminder Steven Summerhays down low and giving the Eagles the 2-1 victory.
The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they continue this three-game series against the Aces in Alaska at 9:15pm MST.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
