The Solar Bears host Greenville for the second straight game between the two sides after the Road Warriors completed a dramatic comeback win over Orlando on Wednesday night. The Solar Bears battled back from a 2-1 deficit at the start of the third period on Wednesday to take a 3-2 lead into the final seconds of the game. With just 1.1 seconds left in the contest, Greenville used a 3-on-1 rush to knock the puck into the back of the net and force overtime with the score tied a 3-3. The game eventually moved into a shootout, where the final Road Warriors shooter snapped a 1-1 tie to give Greenville a 4-3 shootout win. It was the second time in two home games against Greenville that the Road Warriors have tied the game in the final seconds, as they scored with 11 seconds left on October 28 to force overtime as well. Orlando is now 1-2-0-2 against Greenville this season.
Solar Bears Notes:
F Ryan Ginand is expected to return from the 21-day IR tonight. He last appeared against the Fort Wayne Komets on December 8... Orlando has scored three power play goals in a single game on two separate occasions, both against the Greenville Road Warriors. Orlando struck for three power play goals on Wednesday and also on October 28... C Ryan Cruthers is currently on a five-game goal streak, the longest of the season for Orlando... F Michael Neal extended his goal streak to three games with a pair of goals on Wednesday... D Alain Goulet picked up his 50th ECHL point on Wednesday with an assist in the first period.. Orlando has earned at least one point in each of the their last six home games dating back to December 9 against the Fort Wayne Komets (6-0-0-1)... G Mike Brodeur remains on the 21-day IR... D Sean Lorenz remains on the 21-day IR... D Jesse Dudas remains on the 21-day IR... D Josh Caron was placed on the 21-day IR on Monday.
Road Warriors Notes:
F Brandon Wong is tied for third in the ECHL with 49 points... D T.J. Reynolds is third in the league with 36 minor penalties... D Steven Delisle is first in the league with a +26 rating... F Jordie Johnston is tied for third among rookies with four game winning goals. He is fourth among rookies with a 23.1 shooting percentage... The Road Warriors are tied for fourth with eight shorthanded goals. They have surrendered just one shorthanded goal against on the road... Greenville is 18th on the power play at 15.6 percent (31-for-201) and 20th on the penalty kill at 77.7 percent (167-for-215)... F Brandon Wong leads the Road Warriors in goals (21) and points (49), F. Marc-Olivier Vallerand leads the team in assists (33).
Solar Bears Unveil Turner Cup Banner Tomorrow, Feb. 2:
The Orlando Solar Bears will unveil the 2001 Turner Cup Championship Banner tomorrow night, February 2. The pregame ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. and fans are encouraged to be in their seats early. The Turner Cup will be in the building, along with representatives from the Hockey Hall of Fame. Mayor Buddy Dyer will make a special presentation, and special guests will be in attendance.
The Solar Bears will wear special throwback jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game, with the winning bidders getting an opportunity to meet their player. Orlando won the Turner Cup on May 26, 2001, and never had a chance to raise the banner as the IHL folded immediately following that season.
