Colorado Eagles News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Colorado Eagles took the first of a pair of meetings this weekend against the Bakersfield Condors with a 3-1 win. Colorado set a season high for shots in a period and shots in a game, as the visitors dominated play from start to finish. If not for Scott Greenham's 51 saves for Bakersfield, the game could have easily been a blowout.
The Eagles dominated play in the first frame, setting a new season high for shots in a period by out-shooting the Condors 20-6, but Bakersfield took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Greenham made several big saves in the home team's net, helping to stymie the league's top power play as the Eagles went 0-for-2 in the period, including nearly a minute of 5-on-3 action.
Alternatively, Bakersfield was able to convert on their only power play chance of the opening period -- against Colorado's struggling penalty killing units -- when Nicholas Tremblay's backhander from the low slot deflected off of Jason Beatty's shin and past Adam Brown.
Things played out similarly in the second period, with the Eagles setting another season high for shots in a period by out-shooting the Condors by an even wider margin: 21-5. But after failing to convert in the first frame, Colorado's power play scored just 15 seconds into its first chance of the second period to tie the game at 1.
On the play, Kevin Ulanski followed his own rebound into the slot and then found Steve Haddon wide open with a back-door pass for a shot into a wide open cage. And just 11 seconds later, following the ensuing faceoff, Dylan Hood put the visitors on top with his second highlight reel goal in a week. The speedy rookie forward stickhandled through a defender in the left circle of the offensive zone, then deked the Condors' netminder from the low slot.
Colorado's first shot of the final frame tied their season high for shots in a game, and they would go on to out-shoot the Condors 13-6 in the third. Despite the continued dominance in play, Greenham continued to deny the Eagles' offerings, and it wasn't until he was pulled in the final two minutes of action that Ulanski was able to ice the game with an empty-net tally.
