Edmonton Reassigns G Tyler Bunz to the Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, announced rookie goaltender Tyler Bunz has been reassigned by Edmonton to the Thunder from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.

Bunz, 20, will suit up for the Thunder in its next game tonight at 7:30 p.m. (1280 AM KWSX/StocktonThunder.com), against the Idaho Steelheads at Stockton Arena.

The 6-foot-1 and 198 pound goaltender has one shutout, a record of 11-9-3, save percentage of .878 and goals against average of 3.45 in 23 ECHL games this season. He blanked the Ontario Reign, 4-0 for his first career ECHL win.

Bunz has appeared in one game with Oklahoma City and made his AHL debut on Jan. 25 at Milwaukee.

He was selected in the fifth round (121st overall) of the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Oilers and garnered the Del Wilson Trophy as the Western Hockey League Goaltender of the Year last season with the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Bunz also suited up for Edmonton in the 2010 and 2011 YoungStars Tournaments in Penticton, B.C. and went 2-0 with a shutout against the Winnipeg Jets in the 2011 tourney.

A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12.
