Trenton Titans News Release
Last Meeting
January 30, 2013 - Florida opened up a tight game with three goals in the second period - by even strength, short-handed and power play - to secure an eventual 5-2 win in Estero, FL.
Next Meeting
This will be the second and final time the Titans and Everblades see each other in the regular season.
Streaks (Last 10)
Florida: 2-0 (7-3); Trenton: 0-3 (3-6-0-1)
Record (Road/Home)
Florida: 12-5-1-2 Home); Trenton: 6-11-2-2 Road (3-6-2-1 last 12 on Road, has lost last 2).
A "Power"-ful Matchup
Tonight will see another matchup of two of the best Special Team units in the league. Florida's PP - which went 2-for-5 last meeting - is ranked 2nd at 23.2% (45 goals-194 Opps) and a staggering 26.5 at home (22-83), which still rankes 2nd behind the 28.3 of Colorado.
Trenton - who's PP is no slouch on the road at 20.2% - still has the best PK unit in the league, coming in at 85.7 % (27 goals - 189 Opps). It is ranked 5th both road (83.1, 15-89) and home (88, 12-100).
DID YOU KNOW?
Titans Head Coach Vince Williams was part of Orlando's IHL championship team in 2001, but never saw a banner raised as the league folded at the end of the season. He will get to see that banner when the Titans play in Orlando for the first time tomorrow. Trenton beat the Solar Bears at home, 5-1, in the first ever meeting between the two on December 1, 2012.
Busy Boy
Titans have been leaning heavily on Scott Wedgewood between the pipes
With the release of Niko Hovinen and the recent suspension of Cal Heeter (with the final game being tonight), rookie Scott Wedgewood has had to carry the goaltending load for the Titans. And even though the record isn't where Trenton wants it, the scores could have been greater with the outstanding work of Wedgewood.
Including tonight, he will have played in 12 straight games - starting 11 of them - and 14 of the last 15. He has had to take a couple for the team and suffer the fate of some unexplainable bounces, which would explain somewhat the 3-8 record over his last 11 starts. But the record doesn't tell the whole story, as his brilliant play nearly single-handedly kept the Titans in several games.
He has also been in a shooting gallery at times, needing to make 30-plus saves six times, including 38 against Las Vegas (W) and Cincinnati (L).
So if you get the chance to watch "Wedgey"...WATCH him. Don't let a box score dictate your opinion of him. If you do that, you will miss out on a very special talent.
