ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The I-Cubs took an early 6-0 lead and never looked back to take a series lead over the Indians last night, 10-1. A pair of unearned runs in the first inning off Osvaldo Bido and a grand slam by Jackson Frazier - who totalled six RBI - in the second gave Iowa a lead that the Indians could not overcome as they went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left six on base. After hitting a two-run homer to cap a seven-run third inning last night, Martin put the Indians on the board with a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning. Iowa then took Martin's run back with four runs on five hits in the top of the ninth inning. Iowa starter Matt Dermody fanned 10 batters in 5.0 scoreless innings, with his first six outs recorded all coming via strikeout.

MARTIN MASHING: After hitting a two-run bomb last night in the third inning, Mason Martin launched his team-leading 14th home run of the season last night to mark his first stretch of consecutive games with a home run since hitting longballs in three consecutive games from 5/22-25 (1). Martin has now reached base safely in all seven games played so far in July, with hits in six of those contests good for a .304 average (7-for-23). When Indy's heavy-hitting first baseman is on a tear, he's dominant against opposing pitching. He launched four homers while hitting .303 (23-for-76) during his April Player of the Month campaign, and in May he went on a run with seven home runs, including a stretch of five homers in six games.

RODOLFO ROLLING: With a double in the ninth inning last night, Rodolfo Castro extended his hitting streak to four consecutive games since Wednesday vs. Iowa. On Thursday, he tallied a season-high three hits to lead the offense. Since 7/2 when he went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, he is hitting .348 (8-for-23) with three extra-base hits.

MITCHELL DOESN'T MISS: Cal Mitchell doubled last night and has now hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games with a .356 average (21-for-59) with six doubles and 13 RBI. He's been a hitting machine for the Indians this season, hitting safely in 34 of his 43 Triple-A games with a .317 average (51-for-161), a .491 slugging percentage and .855 OPS. He recorded an 11-game hitting streak from 5/17-7/4, the second-longest streak among Indians batters this season, with a .419 average (18-for-43) and .934 OPS. He also recorded a seven-game RBI streak from 4/5-13, which is the third-longest streak in the International League this season.

THROWING HEAT: Hard-throwing reliever Cristofer Melendez silenced the Iowa offense with 2.0 hitless innings, matching his longest outing of the season (last on 6/26 vs. Memphis). All six of his 2.0-inning outings this season have come at Victory Field and he's more efficient when throwing at home, compiling a 3.54 ERA (8er/20.1ip) in 14 home games compared to a 7.15 ERA (9er/11.1ip) in 12 road games. Overall, his strikeout-to-walk ratio is much better when taking the Victory Field mound. His full splits are listed below.

Home (14 games): 2-2, 3.54 ERA, 20.1 IP, 13 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 2 HB, 15 BB, 30 K, 1.38 WHIP, .186 AVG

Road (12 games): 0-2, 7.15 ERA, 11.1 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 2 HR, 1 HB, 13 BB, 13 K, 1.85 WHIP, .195 AVG

TONIGHT: The Indians will look to avoid a series loss against the I-Cubs in today's finale at 1:35 PM ET at Victory Field. This is the second series between the two teams this season and the first at Victory Field after Indy took four of six games at Principal Park earlier this year. For the Indians, Zach Matson will make his fifth start in 12 appearances with the Indians this season after not allowing a run over his last three appearances (3.2ip). Matson faced Iowa out of the bullpen on Friday and set each of his three batters faced down in order. Countering for the I-Cubs will be Fourth of July starter Javier Assad, who made his Triple-A debut on Monday. In that outing, he surrendered three runs (two earned) on eight hits over 4.1 innings to take a no-decision as the Indians went on to win in extra innings.

MATSON ON THE MOUND: Zach Matson will look to extend his 3.2-inning scoreless streak over his last three appearances today as he makes a spot start for the Indians. The left-hander's first career start came this season with Altoona, and since he's become Indy's go-to guy to begin a bullpen day when necessary. In his five starts with Indianapolis, he is 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA (6er/6.1ip) compared to a 4.15 ERA (4er/8.2ip) in seven relief appearances.

THIS DATE IN 2003: Center fielder Jason Conti hit for the first cycle in Victory Field history in an 8-5 win vs. Norfolk. In the No. 2 spot in the lineup, he went 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. The Indians scored one run in each of the first three innings and put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth inning. There have been six cycles in the Victory Field era, and Conti's was the only cycle until 2010.
