St. Paul Saints News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY - The St. Paul Saints have now played 28 one-run contests this season. For the 16th time this season, they came out on the losing end. Leading 4-2 in the sixth, the Saints gave up three runs in the bottom of the sixth and lost 5-4 on Sunday afternoon to the Louisville Bats at Louisville Slugger Field.

For the 49th time this season, the opposition got on the board first. With one out in the second Ronnie Dawson singled to center. Mark Kolozsvary followed with a single putting runners at the corners. Lorenzo Cedrola then lined out to Elliot Soto at second. He tried to double-up Kolozsvary at first, but Curtis Terry had the ball tip off his glove for an error allowing Dawson to score putting the Bats up 1-0.

For the ninth consecutive game the Saints used the long ball to get runs. Caleb Hamilton led off the fourth inning with a home run to left-center his ninth of the season, tying the game at one. Jermaine Palacios reached on an infield single to short and Curtis Terry followed with a two-run opposite field home run to right, his eighth of the season, giving the Saints a 3-1 lead.

The Bats got one back courtesy of their own home run as Ronnie Dawson, who homered twice on Saturday, hit a solo homer to straightaway center, his eighth of the season, cutting the Saints lead to 3-2.

Hamilton knocked in another run in the fifth. Elliot Soto led off with an infield single to third. Michael Helman drew a walk putting runners at first and second. With one out, Hamilton dropped a single into right scoring Soto giving the Saints a 4-2 lead. Hamilton finished 2-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bats grabbed the lead. Max Schrock led off with a double to right and scored on a single from Colin Moran making it 4-3. With two outs and nobody on, Stuart Fairchild blooped a fly ball single into left-center. Fairchild stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored the tying run on an RBI single from Dawson. Then with Dawson running, Kolozsvary singled to right scoring Dawson to give the Bats a 5-4 lead.

The Saints dropped four-of-six in the series to the Bats, three of them by one run.

The Saints have Monday off and are back in action on Tuesday night at 7:07 p.m. at CHS Field against the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers). Both teams are TBA. The game can be seen on the Saints Broadcast Network, cable access channels in and around the Twin Cities area, and MiLB.TV, and heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
