Memphis Bests Durham in Game Five

DURHAM, NC- The Durham Bulls (45-38) dropped game five of their six-game set against the Memphis Redbirds (45-38) 9-2 on Saturday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Despite the loss, the Bulls now lead 3-2 in the series.

Memphis struck first in the second as 1B Luken Baker went yard on a solo shot, while 2B Cory Spangenberg two batters later followed suit with a solo shot of his own for a 2-0 lead. In the fifth, the Redbirds had another two-run inning as RBI singles from DH Alec Burleson and C Clint Coulter stretched the lead to 4-0. An RBI groundout from LF Scott Hurst in the sixth and an RBI single from 3B Irving Lopez stretched the lead to 6-0 in the eighth before Memphis would add three more runs in the inning.

The Bulls would get on the board in the bottom half of the eighth, as RF Ruben Cardenas led off the inning on a solo shot. Later in the inning, 2B Xavier Edwards would cross the plate on a bases loaded walk.

Redbirds pitcher Thomas Parsons picked up the win after 4.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits and ringing up four strikeouts. Bulls pitcher Easton McGee picked up the loss.

The Bulls are set to return to the DBAP for their series finale against the Memphis Redbirds on Sunday evening. Durham's pitcher is to be determined while the Redbirds are scheduled to start RHP Aaron Brooks. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm.
