
Tides Split Series with Jumbo Shrimp in Defeat

Jacksonville, Fla. --- The Norfolk Tides (41-43) lost to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (45-39), 3-1, on Sunday night at 121 Financial Ballpark in the series finale between these two clubs. The Tides have split both series with the Jumbo Shrimp this season.
Jacksonville jumped into the lead in the opening frame by scoring twice their first time up, thanks to a two-run home run from Lewin Díaz. The Jumbo Shrimp would tack on one more run in the contest, through a sacrifice fly from Díaz in the third.
Kirk McCarty made his Baltimore organization debut with his start tonight and suffered the loss. He worked 4.0 innings and allowed three runs on five hits, which included one home run. He struck out two batters and did not issue a walk.
Jordan Westburg plated the only Tides run of the ballgame with an RBI-groundout in the seventh, scoring Kelvin Gutiérrez. Westburg now has 28 RBI through his first 27 games at the Triple-A level and has recorded an RBI in four-straight games.
Norfolk enjoys an off day tomorrow before returning to action on Tuesday night against the Worcester Red Sox at Harbor Park. The Tides are scheduled to start LHP DL Hall (2-3, 4.28) and LHP Chris Murphy (1-0, 4.91) is slated to start for the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
POSTGAME NOTES
FRESH FACE: Kirk McCarty made his Baltimore organizational debut tonight...he allowed three runs on five hits in 4.0 innings of work, issued no walks and struck out two...he allowed one home run and he has allowed a home run in four of his last five outings...he has whiffed two batters in each of his last two games...McCarty is the 67th difference player to appear on the Tides roster and the 66th to appear in a game this season.
EXTRA! EXTRA!: Kyle Stowers clubbed his 22nd double of the season tonight, which ranks tied for second in the International League along with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Estevan Florial...the pair trail Rochester's Jake Noll, who has the league lead with 23 doubles...the double by Stowers was also his 37th extra-base hit of the season, which ranks second in the league behind Lehigh Valley's Darick Hall, who has 38.
RECEDING TIDES: Through the first nine games of July, the Tides offense has only scored 31 runs, which is the third-lowest total in the International League in the month...the Tides have also posted a batting average of .212 in the month, which is also the second lowest in the league...Norfolk, along with Buffalo, are the only two clubs batting under .230 so far in July.
WILD WILD WEST: Jordan Westburg went 0-for-5 tonight with an RBI...while his hitting streak ends at five games, he now has at least one RBI in four-straight games for the second time this season, matching his career-high streak at the Triple-A level...he has a total of 28 RBI through 27 games with the Tides.
