TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The second and final meeting of the season and Lexington's only visit to Richmond. The âGades beat the Men O' War 3-2 in overtime in October. Brad Church scored the game-winner. Lexington features ex-âGades Joe Vandermeer and Kevin Knopp. The âGades are seventh in the Northeast Division, three points behind Charlotte and nine back of Trenton. Lexington is in a third place tie with Cincinnati in the Northwest Division, 20 points behind Toledo.
LAST ACTION: The âGades beat Trenton 3-2 here Saturday night. The âGades jumped out early and held on to beat a Titans club that had lost only one of their last 12 games. Daniel Goneau and Josh Harrold scored their first goals as âGades. Lars Pettersen also scored for Richmond. The âGades out-shot the Titans 34-24. Lexington lost 3-2 at Wheeling Saturday. The Men O' War rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the third period. Wheeling scored the game winner with just 1:02 to play. Lexington out-shot Wheeling 48-29.
âGADES NOTES: Lars Pettersen was a runner up for ECHL Player of the Week. Marc Magliarditi was runner up for ECHL Goalie of the Week. The âGades have won four straight home games by a combined score of 21-9. Richmond plays three more at home this week to conclude a five game homestand. The âGades play nine straight road games in March. Richmond has lost their last eight road games and is winless is 10 straight away from home. The âGades 21 home wins is tied for most in the league. Their six road wins is tied for fewest in the ECHL. Richmond suffered a loss when leading after two periods for the first time this season Wednesday at Atlantic City. Garret Stroshein remains on re-call with Portland of the AHL. He is the seventh âGade to be called up this season. Branislav Kvetan refused to report following a trade with Louisiana and has been suspended. The âGades placed Johnathan St. Louis on waivers. Josh Harrold had three assists in Friday's win over Pee Dee and scored his first goal as a Renegade (the game winner) Saturday vs. Trenton. Daniel Goneau scored his first as a âGade Saturday. Lars Pettersen, Peter Hogan, and Brad Church have points in four straight games. The âGades have 10 former NHL draft picks on their roster. Richmond has won their last two games. The âGades have not won three in a row since early December. The âGades win over Trenton was their fourth straight vs. the Titans. Richmond has allowed one even strength goal in their last two games. Daniel Goneau is 13th in the league in scoring. Lars Pettersen is 17th in the ECHL in points. Jon Zion is ninth in scoring by defensemen and leads the league in points by rookie D-men. Leon Hayward leads the ECHL in shorthanded goals by rookies (4). Marc Magliarditi is fifth in the league in minutes played. Brad Church is fifth in shots on goal. The âGades are the least penalized team in the ECHL. They are eighth in penalty killing (82.6%), tied for second in shorthanded goals (14), and seventh in fewest shots on goal allowed (just over 30 per game). The ECHL trade deadline is this afternoon.
