Lynx Add Gritty Malts

February 26, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

AUGUSTA, GA— The Augusta Lynx announced today that they have acquired gritty winger Vince Malts from the Charlotte Checkers in exchange for goaltender Colin Zulianello and forward/defenseman Doug Christiansen. Malts, a fourth year pro, has played the last two seasons with the Charlotte Checkers. He has recorded 28 points this season on 11 goals and 17 assists to go along with 132 penalty minutes. Known for his bruising style of play, the 6'3, 215 lb. Right-winger was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft with the 177th overall selection. The Philadelphia native will be playing for his fourth team in the ECHL having played previously for Arkansas, Pee Dee, and Charlotte.

"We felt we had to fill a void of physical presence upfront while adding some more offensive punch. He's a solid two way player and will have an immediate impact on the club." Said Assistant Coach John Whitwell.

The Lynx will unveil four new players in forwards Chris Thompson, Andrew Ianiero, Vince Malts, and defenseman Philippe Roy this weekend as the Lynx host the Pee Dee Pride on Friday night and the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday night. Both games are scheduled to get underway at 7:35 PM at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. For ticket information contact the Lynx Ticket Department at 706-724-4423 or order through Ticketmaster at 828-7700.

The Lynx travel to Greensboro to play the Generals tomorrow night from the Greensboro Coliseum. The game can be heard starting at 6:45 PM on KISS 96.3 FM with the SRP Federal Credit Union Pre game show.
