
Generals Make Two Trades

Greensboro, NC â On the final day before the trade deadline, the Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) has announced a pair of deals. Greensboro has acquired defenseman Derrick Byfuglien (BUFF-linn) from the Mississippi Sea Wolves in exchange for defenseman Chris Allen. The Generals have also picked up left wing Mike Bayrack from the Toledo Storm in exchange for an undisclosed amount of cash.
Byfuglien, 22, has played in 49 games for Mississippi this season, scoring two goals and adding 12 assists for 14 points. The 6'1", 200-pound native of Roseau, MN also recorded a +3 rating and 58 penalty minutes. Byfuglien is in his second professional season, splitting time with the Florida Everblades and Roanoke Express last year, scoring a total of eleven points (5g, 6a) with 120 penalty mintues. Byfuglien was also drafted in the fourth round of the 2000 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators.
Bayrack, 24, is a fourth year forward who has eleven goals and 16 assists for 27 points with a +13 rating in 46 games with Toledo this year. The 5'11", 185-pound forward won a championship with the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League last season, where he posted 63 points (29g, 34a) in 71 games. The Edmonton, Alberta native has also ties to Greensboro, playing 15 games for the Generals in their inaugural 1999-2000 season. Bayrack has played in 246 career games, notching 167 points (74g, 93a).
Allen leaves the Generals having scored six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 51 games.
The Generals have two home games this week, entertaining the Augusta Lynx tomorrow night at 7:00 and the Columbia Inferno on Friday at 7:30. Friday's game is "Pack the House" night and is loaded with promotions, giveaways, and specials. The Generals will wear Carolina Monarchs jerseys for the contest, which will be auctioned off to fans right after the game. Among other specials for the night, the Generals will be giving away 1,000 Kevin Weekes bobblehead dolls, WWE's Shawn Michaels will be on hand to sign autographs and drop the ceremonial first puck, there will be a concession deal of $2.50 for a hot dog and Carolina Monarchs souvenir sports bottle, and group tickets for ten or more seats are available for only $6.00.
