Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

BILOXI, Miss. – Mississippi coach Bob Woods announced today the Sea Wolves have acquired defenseman Chris Allen from the Greensboro Generals for defenseman Derrick Byfuglien (BUHF-lehn) on trade deadline day in the East Coast Hockey League.

Allen, 24, scored seven goals, added eight assists and collected 58 penalty minutes in 51 games with Greensboro this season. The 6-foot-2 and 195-pound native of Chatham, Ontario is in his fifth season of professional hockey. Allen was selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round of the 1996 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He has played two games with Florida, posting two penalty minutes.

Byfuglien, 22, registered two goals, 12 assists and accumulated 58 penalty minutes in 49 games with the Sea Wolves this season. The 6-foot-1 and 205-pound native of Roseau, Minnesota is in his second season of pro hockey. He was acquired by Mississippi in a trade with the Roanoke Express on August 15, 2002. Byfuglien was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the fourth round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

"It was definitely tough to trade Derrick Byfuglien, a good young defenseman," said Woods. "But Chris Allen is an experienced defenseman that I expect will bring offense from the blueline."

The Sea Wolves host the Baton Rouge Kingfish on Friday at 7:35 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Then on Saturday, Mississippi welcomes the Arkansas RiverBlades at 7:35 p.m. at the Wolves Den.

Group discounts are available by calling the Sea Wolves hockey office at 228-275-WOLF (9653).

Individual game tickets for the Sea Wolves are available at all TicketMaster locations, the Coliseum box office and by calling 228-594-3707.
